Chic Baby Items Steal the Show in First-Ever Etsy Design Awards

Interactive Magnetic Dino Wallpaper

Who doesn’t love Etsy? Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind gift or design-forward decor, the e-commerce site that sells unique items from 2.2 million independent sellers around the world always come through. Now, Etsy is honoring the chicest of its offerings in its first-ever global design competition - and among the winners are some of the most gorgeous kids’ items we’ve ever seen.

The winners of the Etsy Design Awards were selected from thousands of entries by a judging panel that included Schitt’s Creek writer and actor Dan Levy, style expert and the just-announced global artistic director for Tatler Asia Joe Zee, author and artist Garance Doré, interior designer Sophie Robinson, décor expert Holly Becker, fashion designer Anavila Misra, and Etsy trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson. So you know these products are good.

Grand Prize Winner: Interactive Magnetic Dino Wallpaper

The Grand Prize Winner is an incredible interactive magnetic wallpaper designed by London-based designer Sian Zeng. The winning design features fairytale-inspired illustrations of dinosaurs and - get this - is magnetized so kids can use the accompanying magnets to move around on their walls and tell their own stories, inspiring their creativity.

“Magnetic wallpaper for children is fresh, innovative and also opens up a whole new world of creative play while also appealing to parents who love design and wish to expose their children to inspiring surroundings early on,” Becker said of the panel’s top prize winner. “This is an absolutely brilliant product!”

Signature Style Winner: Rainbow Butterfly Coat

Rainbow Butterfly Coat

Texas mom Molly Goodall runs the Etsy shop littlegoodall, which sells whimsical handmade children’s clothes. She took home the prize in the “signature style” category for her rainbows and butterflies coat. It features applique gilded butterflies, a faux fur collar and a custom print lining, and has proven so popular that adult sizes will soon be available.

“Just pure magic,” Robinson said of the unique outerwear. “This little jacket is a piece of pure fairytale magic and would make a marvelous family heirloom.”

We love this whimsical organic “bearmouse” bonnet (because the design looks like a cross between a bear and a mouse) for babies and toddlers. It features a mostly-blue palette with a marigold lining and ties to knot under the chin.

Finalist: Personalized Sensory Blocks

Also selected as a finalist is a set of mustard color sensory blocks made from soft organic cotton, which can be personalized with your child’s name. Sensory toys can help babies develop cognitive and fine motor skills, so this could make a great gift for infants, especially once they hit 6 months.
